The transfer of your existing website from your current provider is included in the price of every VPS plan. Files, databases, mail and DNS, handled by support.

What is included

  • Your website files, moved to IIS on the new server.
  • Your databases - SQL Server or MySQL - restored on the server and reconnected.
  • Your mailboxes, recreated on the server's mail service, with help pointing the domain at it.
  • DNS: a plan for switching the domain over with the least interruption, and the records to do it.
  • A check that the site works on the new server before the domain moves.

How it works

  1. Sign up for the plan you need. The server is available immediately.
  2. Open a ticket with the details of your current hosting: where the site is, how to reach the files and the database, which domains and mailboxes are involved.
  3. Support moves the site to the VPS and tests it on a temporary address.
  4. You check it. When you are happy, the domain is pointed at the new server and the old account can be closed.

What it costs

Nothing beyond the monthly price of the plan. Other providers charge a transfer fee or bill the work by the hour; we include it because a server that is hard to move to is a server nobody moves to.

Common questions

How long does a transfer take?

It depends on the size of the site and how quickly we can get at the old hosting. A typical business site is moved and tested within a day or two of the ticket; the domain switch is scheduled for whenever suits you.

Will the site be down during the move?

The site keeps running on the old host while we copy and test. The only interruption is DNS propagation when the domain switches, which is usually minutes to a few hours.

Can you move several sites?

Yes. Basic and above are built for several sites; list them all in the ticket.

What if my current host uses Linux?

PHP and MySQL sites move to the Windows VPS without trouble - PHP runs under IIS and MySQL is pre-installed. Anything unusual, tell support first and we will say what to expect.
