Compared with Amazon WorkSpaces

Infosaic Cloud compared with Amazon WorkSpaces

This page compares Infosaic Cloud Windows 11 virtual desktops with Amazon WorkSpaces. It is for buyers who want a personal cloud desktop and need to see how delivery, Windows editions, networking, and AWS account setup differ from a self-serve Desktop as a Service order. Read it if you are weighing instant Windows 11 desktops against WorkSpaces Personal or a pool in an AWS region.

What each product is

Amazon WorkSpaces is AWS's managed desktop service. WorkSpaces Personal gives each user a persistent desktop billed AlwaysOn by the month or AutoStop by the hour. WorkSpaces Pools gives non-persistent sessions from a fleet. License-included Windows bundles run Windows Server and include an RDS subscriber access license. A Windows 11 desktop image is a bring-your-own-license path that AWS runs on dedicated hardware so the license terms stay valid.

Infosaic Cloud is an independent hosting company's Windows 11 virtual desktop, sold as Desktop as a Service and VDI. Four packages cover light browsing through an advanced PC workload. Light ships with Windows 11 LTSC and Office pre-installed but not activated, so the customer brings a license. Each desktop is one interactive user at a time.

WorkSpaces is the right shape when desktops must live in an AWS account next to the rest of that estate. Infosaic is the right shape when the buyer wants Windows 11 without standing up a directory and a VPC first.

How you get a desktop

Infosaic's main advantage is instant delivery. After signup the customer receives an email with the login. Provisioning time is zero.

Amazon WorkSpaces starts in the AWS console. You register a directory, connect a VPC, pick a bundle and a protocol, and launch. AlwaysOn Personal desktops are then waiting for the assigned user. That is a short cloud deployment, not a login email at the moment of a public signup.

Access on Infosaic is a browser link or RDP. WorkSpaces uses the WorkSpaces client family and web access over DCV or PCoIP. RDP to the instance is not the everyday path AWS documents for end users.

Windows editions, control, and software

Every Infosaic desktop is Windows 11 with full administrator rights. Light uses LTSC. Office on Light is present but not activated.

On WorkSpaces the default Windows path is Server-based and license-included. That is a normal DaaS pattern and it is not the same edition as a Windows 11 LTSC desktop. Teams that need Windows 11 as the client OS bring eligible desktop licenses and accept AWS's dedicated-hardware rules for that program. Local administrator can be turned on. Application installs still follow the image and the directory.

HIPAA workloads can be discussed with Infosaic because the company has signed Business Associate Agreements before. Compliance of the facility sits with the data center, not with Infosaic, and this page does not list attestations. On WorkSpaces, compliance follow-through sits with the AWS Region, the account configuration, and the agreements you have with AWS.

Network and isolation

Infosaic places each desktop on Hyper-V isolation in a United States data center. Redundant carriers blend traffic so that if one provider has an outage another continues the path. Each desktop receives a dedicated public IP and unmetered traffic.

WorkSpaces networking is the VPC you choose. You decide subnets, NAT, security groups, and whether a WorkSpace receives a public IPv4 address. Streaming traffic between the client and the WorkSpace is treated as part of the service. Other internet traffic and public IPv4 use follow AWS network pricing.

Neither product is described here as carrier-neutral. The practical difference is an included dedicated public IP and unmetered traffic on Infosaic versus a VPC design and AWS network meters on WorkSpaces.

Packages and billing shape

Light is for light browsing and basic office work: 3 GB RAM, 4 virtual cores, Windows 11 LTSC. Basic is an office desktop replacement and is good for all office applications. Standard is for resource-hungry office applications such as advanced QuickBooks. Advanced is the most powerful package and matches the functionality of an advanced PC.

WorkSpaces sells bundles rather than four named packages. Graphics bundles exist for GPU work. AlwaysOn Personal is the closest billing shape to a monthly desktop. AutoStop and Pools exist for intermittent use. WorkSpaces Pools has been the non-persistent option; AWS has announced an end to new Pools customers and a later retirement of that console, so new designs should confirm the current Personal path.

This page states Infosaic's published starting price and does not reprint AWS bundle rates, which vary by Region.

Support and what you operate

Infosaic has no contract. Billing is monthly or annual. Support is staffed around the clock. There is no formal SLA.

WorkSpaces support is the AWS Support plan on the account, plus the person who maintains the directory, images, and VPC. There is no Infosaic-style signup that skips the AWS account.

Choose WorkSpaces when AWS identity and regional placement are the requirement. Choose Infosaic when the requirement is a Windows 11 desktop that starts from a signup email.

Which one fits

Neither answer is wrong. These are the conditions that decide it.

Choose Infosaic Cloud when

  • You want a login email as soon as you sign up, with provisioning time of zero.
  • You want Windows 11, including LTSC on Light, without a BYOL desktop program.
  • You need a dedicated public IP, unmetered traffic, and full administrator rights.
  • You do not want to create an AWS directory and VPC before the first user works.
  • You prefer monthly or annual billing with no contract.

Choose Amazon WorkSpaces when

  • Desktops must run in an AWS Region next to existing VPC workloads.
  • You already operate AWS Directory Service or AD Connector.
  • You want AlwaysOn or AutoStop billing inside an AWS account.
  • You need WorkSpaces graphics bundles or a BYOL Windows 11 image on dedicated hardware.
  • Users will connect with the WorkSpaces client and DCV or PCoIP.

The four plans

Four packages of the same fast-performing Windows 11 computer, from a light desk for browsing and email to a workstation-class machine. Administrator rights and round-the-clock support on all of them.

Common questions

Is Infosaic Cloud a replacement for Amazon WorkSpaces?

It replaces WorkSpaces when you wanted a personal Windows 11 desktop and not an AWS directory of bundles. It does not replace an AWS account.

Does WorkSpaces give each user Windows 11 by default?

License-included bundles use Windows Server. Windows 11 as a desktop OS is a bring-your-own-license path on dedicated hardware.

Can several people share one Infosaic desktop?

No. A Windows 11 desktop on Infosaic Cloud is one interactive user at a time. WorkSpaces Pools is AWS's non-persistent multi-user fleet model.

Does Amazon WorkSpaces include a dedicated public IP and unmetered traffic?

The streaming path is part of the service. A public IPv4 address and other internet traffic follow the VPC and AWS network charges.

Do I need an AWS account to use Infosaic?

No. You sign up for Infosaic Cloud and receive the login email. WorkSpaces is launched from an AWS account.

Is there a contract or a formal SLA?

Infosaic has no contract and no formal SLA. Support is staffed around the clock. WorkSpaces follows AWS commercial terms and the support plan on the account.
