DaaS and Windows 365

Desktop as a Service compared with Windows 365

This page compares Desktop as a Service from an independent provider with a Windows 365 Cloud PC. It is a delivery-model comparison, not a scorecard of every SKU. Read it if you need to know what DaaS means as a category, how Microsoft placed Windows 365 inside that category, and which trade-offs follow from each path.

What Desktop as a Service means

Desktop as a Service is a commercial pattern. A company hosts a Windows desktop, keeps the hypervisor and the data center path running, and sells you access by the month. You do not buy a session-host farm. You do not size Azure virtual machines unless you chose a platform that works that way. You receive a desktop.

Independent providers vary. Some sell a locked image. Some sell a full administrator desktop with a public IP. Infosaic Cloud is the latter: Windows 11 virtual desktops as DaaS and VDI, Light through Advanced, instant delivery of a login email, Hyper-V isolation in a United States data center with redundant blended carriers.

DaaS is the category. Infosaic Cloud is one product inside it. Windows 365 is another.

Where Windows 365 sits

Windows 365 is Microsoft's Cloud PC. Microsoft describes it as a SaaS desktop: pick a configuration, assign a user, and Microsoft keeps that personal Cloud PC running. Business exists for smaller tenants. Enterprise and Flex assume the Microsoft 365 management stack. Flex adds dedicated and shared modes for shift-style work, still one active session at a time on a given Cloud PC.

That placement matters. Windows 365 is DaaS in the sense that Microsoft, not the customer, runs the virtual machine. It is not DaaS in the sense of a provider-agnostic desktop you can treat like a rented PC. It is an endpoint in Intune. Networking, identity, updates, and support follow Microsoft's Cloud PC rules.

Buyers who already live in Microsoft 365 often want that. Buyers who wanted only a Windows desktop often did not know they were joining that stack.

What you gain on independent DaaS

An independent DaaS purchase can start without a Microsoft tenant design. On Infosaic Cloud the customer signs up and receives the login email at once. Each desktop has full administrator rights, a dedicated public IP, and unmetered traffic. Light uses Windows 11 LTSC with Office pre-installed and not activated, so the customer brings a license. Basic is an office desktop replacement. Standard is for resource-hungry office applications such as advanced QuickBooks. Advanced matches the functionality of an advanced PC.

You also gain a contract shape that is just monthly or annual billing. HIPAA workloads can be discussed when the provider has signed Business Associate Agreements before, as Infosaic has. Compliance of the facility sits with the data center, not with the hosting company, and this page does not list attestations.

What you give up is Microsoft's endpoint plane. There is no Intune console included. Policies, disk encryption standards, and device compliance reports are yours to apply on the desktop, the same way you would on a PC you own.

What you gain on Windows 365

You gain a Cloud PC that appears next to the rest of Microsoft 365. Conditional Access, Intune configuration profiles, and the Windows App are the native path. Enterprise customers can attach an Azure virtual network when the desktop must use customer address space. Configurations run up a Microsoft catalog that includes large workstation and GPU options the independent Light-through-Advanced list does not try to copy.

You also gain Microsoft's provisioning and support model. The bill is a per-user subscription. Business is capped per tenant. Enterprise removes that cap and adds the license prerequisites.

What you give up is independence from that tenant. Microsoft-hosted networking does not hand out a dedicated public IP per Cloud PC. Outbound data on that network is allotted by plan. Local administrator is a setting, not the default posture of a rented PC. Delivery waits on license assignment and Cloud PC provisioning rather than a signup email with a login.

One user, both ways

A Windows 11 virtual desktop from an independent provider is one interactive user at a time. A Windows 365 Cloud PC is also a personal machine for the licensed user. Flex shared mode still allows only one active person on that Cloud PC. Neither model is a classic RDS farm.

If the requirement is many people on one Server, look at Remote Desktop Services or Azure Virtual Desktop multi-session. That is a different category than DaaS or Cloud PC.

How to read a quote

Read an independent DaaS quote as hosting: package, IP, traffic, administrator rights, support hours, billing term. Read a Windows 365 quote as Microsoft 365: configuration, plan family, required Entra and Intune licenses, network option, and the admin who will assign Cloud PCs.

Do not compare only the monthly line. A Business Cloud PC with no extra licenses can look simple. An Enterprise Cloud PC is simple only after those licenses already exist. An independent desktop is simple if you wanted a PC and not an endpoint object.

Which one fits

Neither answer is wrong. These are the conditions that decide it.

Choose Infosaic Cloud when

  • You want DaaS as a hosted Windows 11 PC, not as an Intune object.
  • Instant delivery of a login email is the requirement.
  • You need full administrator rights, a dedicated public IP, and unmetered traffic.
  • You do not want Windows Enterprise, Intune, and Entra ID as prerequisites.
  • Monthly or annual billing with no contract is the commercial shape you want.

Choose DaaS vs Windows 365 when

  • Cloud PCs must be managed beside physical PCs in Intune.
  • Entra ID and Conditional Access are already the access policy.
  • You need Microsoft's larger workstation or GPU Cloud PC configurations.
  • Flex licensing for shift or occasional users is the seating model.
  • Microsoft support and Microsoft Online Services terms are the support path you want.

The four plans

Four packages of the same fast-performing Windows 11 computer, from a light desk for browsing and email to a workstation-class machine. Administrator rights and round-the-clock support on all of them.

Common questions

Is Windows 365 Desktop as a Service?

It is Microsoft's Cloud PC SaaS. It is DaaS in the sense that Microsoft runs the machine. It is not an independent hosted PC outside Microsoft 365.

Is every DaaS product a Cloud PC?

No. Cloud PC is Microsoft's name. Independent DaaS is a hosted desktop from another company, with that company's delivery and network model.

Does independent DaaS require Azure?

Not as a rule. Infosaic Cloud does not. Windows 365 Enterprise can use a customer Azure virtual network when you choose that option.

Can several people share one Windows 11 DaaS desktop?

No. One interactive user at a time. Windows 365 is also one active user per Cloud PC, including Flex shared mode.

Who owns compliance?

Facility attestations belong to the data center or to Microsoft's cloud, not to a hosting brand name on this page. Independent providers can discuss HIPAA when they have signed Business Associate Agreements before.

How does support differ?

Independent DaaS support is the provider's desk. Infosaic Cloud is staffed around the clock with no formal SLA. Windows 365 support is Microsoft's.

A fast Windows desktop, delivered instantly

If you want Desktop as a Service as a personal Windows 11 PC with instant delivery, choose a package on Infosaic Cloud and sign up. You will receive the login email and can connect from a browser or by RDP. If you want a Cloud PC inside Microsoft 365, stay on Windows 365 and assign the license in that tenant.
