Cloud PC or VPS

Windows virtual desktop compared with a Windows VPS

This page compares a Windows virtual desktop, also called a Cloud PC, with a Windows VPS. Infosaic sells both. The page is for buyers who need to match the workload to the product before they sign up: an interactive desktop for one person, or a virtual server that can run services whether or not someone is logged in.

Two products, two jobs

A Cloud PC is a Windows desktop in a data center. You open a browser or an RDP client and work in a full Windows 11 session: documents, browsers, accounting tools, the same pattern as a PC on a desk. Infosaic Cloud sells that session as Desktop as a Service and VDI. Light, Basic, Standard, and Advanced map to how heavy that interactive work is.

A Windows VPS is a virtual server. You install roles, schedule tasks, host an application, or leave a queue running. A person can still open Remote Desktop to administer it. That session is a way to manage the server. It is not the reason the machine exists.

Infosaic offers both so a customer does not have to stretch one shape across both jobs. The rest of this page stays with that split.

The human at the keyboard

A Windows 11 virtual desktop is one interactive user at a time. That limit is the product. Printers, Office windows, QuickBooks, and a browser belong here. Light covers light browsing and basic office work with 3 GB RAM, 4 virtual cores, and Windows 11 LTSC. Office on Light is pre-installed and not activated, so you bring a license. Basic is an office desktop replacement. Standard is for resource-hungry office applications such as advanced QuickBooks. Advanced matches the functionality of an advanced PC.

A Windows VPS can accept an administrator over RDP, and Windows Server can be licensed for more than one Remote Desktop session when you add the right roles. That does not turn the VPS into a Cloud PC. If several people need a personal desktop, each person needs a desktop, not a shared server console.

What keeps running

Close the Cloud PC session and the person has stopped working. Files stay on the disk. Scheduled tasks can still exist, but the design assumes a user will return.

A VPS is built to keep services up after the RDP window closes. That is why site hosting, middleware, build agents, and line-of-business servers land on a VPS. If the workload only matters while someone is looking at a desktop, the Cloud PC is the closer fit.

Network, isolation, and access

Infosaic Cloud desktops use Hyper-V isolation in a United States data center with redundant blended carriers. Each desktop receives a dedicated public IP and unmetered traffic. Access is the web link or RDP.

A Windows VPS also sits in a data center and is reached by RDP plus the application ports you open. You treat inbound ports as part of the server design: a website, an API, a database listener. The Cloud PC's public IP is there so the desktop can go outbound and so you can reach the session. It is not an invitation to publish a farm of public services on a personal desktop.

HIPAA workloads can be discussed because Infosaic has signed Business Associate Agreements before. Compliance of the facility sits with the data center, not with Infosaic, and this page does not list attestations. That conversation applies to either product when the data requires it.

Delivery, billing, and support

For an Infosaic Cloud desktop, signup is followed by a login email. Provisioning time is zero. There is no contract. Billing is monthly or annual. Support is staffed around the clock. There is no formal SLA.

A Windows VPS is handed over as a server. You set the hostname, updates, roles, and backups. Billing is still a monthly or annual hosting relationship with no contract. Support is the same around-the-clock staff, now helping with a server rather than a desktop login.

Do not buy a large desktop package to impersonate a server, and do not buy a VPS only because four people need four separate Windows 11 sessions.

How to choose on Infosaic

Choose the Cloud PC when the success test is "a person sat down and did office work." Choose the VPS when the success test is "the service stayed up after everyone signed out."

If both tests are true, buy both. An accounting firm can keep QuickBooks on Standard or Advanced and keep a small Windows VPS for an internal tool. The products do not replace each other.

Which one fits

Neither answer is wrong. These are the conditions that decide it.

Choose Infosaic Cloud when

  • The user needs a Windows 11 desktop for daily interactive work.
  • One person will sit at that session.
  • A browser link or RDP to a personal desktop is the whole requirement.
  • Light, Basic, Standard, or Advanced matches the applications they run.
  • Instant delivery of a login email is what they expect after signup.

Choose Cloud PC vs VPS when

  • The workload is a service that must run after RDP is closed.
  • You need server roles, scheduled jobs, or published application ports.
  • Several processes should keep state without a logged-in desktop user.
  • You will size a virtual server rather than pick Light through Advanced.
  • Administration over RDP is a maintenance path, not the product itself.

The four plans

Four packages of the same fast-performing Windows 11 computer, from a light desk for browsing and email to a workstation-class machine. Administrator rights and round-the-clock support on all of them.

Common questions

Can I use an Infosaic Cloud desktop as a Windows VPS?

You can leave applications installed on it. It remains a one-user Windows 11 desktop. Background server work belongs on a VPS.

Can I use a Windows VPS as a Cloud PC?

You can open RDP and work. You will be using a server as a makeshift PC. For a personal Windows 11 desktop, use Infosaic Cloud.

May several people share one Cloud PC?

No. A Windows 11 desktop is one interactive user at a time. Give each person a desktop, or put shared services on a VPS.

Which product includes a dedicated public IP and unmetered traffic?

Every Infosaic Cloud desktop includes both. A VPS receives a public IP for the instance. Size that machine for the traffic the services will carry.

Do I need Microsoft 365 for either product?

No. On Light, Office is pre-installed and not activated, so you bring a license if you need it. A VPS has no Office image unless you install one.

Is there a contract or a formal SLA on either product?

No contract and no formal SLA. Support is staffed around the clock for both.

The other comparisons

Same product, measured against the other choices people look at.

A fast Windows desktop, delivered instantly

Match the job first. If you need a personal Windows 11 desktop, choose Light, Basic, Standard, or Advanced on Infosaic Cloud and sign up for that desktop. If you need a Windows server, order the VPS instead. In both cases you work with Infosaic on monthly or annual billing and connect when the login is in your inbox.
