Cloud PC or a PC on your desk
A Windows 11 cloud desktop compared with a PC on your desk
This page compares a Windows 11 virtual desktop on Infosaic Cloud with a physical PC on your desk. It is for someone who is about to buy another computer and wants to know when renting a cloud desktop is enough. Both options are honest tools. The local PC still wins at offline work, heavy local graphics, and odd peripherals.
Side by side
| Thing being compared | Windows 11 virtual desktop on Infosaic Cloud | A physical PC on your desk |
|---|---|---|
| What you buy | A monthly or annual desktop service. Pricing starts from $11.95 a month | A machine, a warranty, and later repairs or a replacement |
| When you can use it | From a browser or RDP on the devices you already own | At the desk where the chassis sits, unless you carry the chassis |
| Failure and theft | The session lives in a United States data center. A stolen laptop is only a client | A stolen or failed PC takes the disk with it unless you backed it up |
| Replacement time | Sign up and receive a login email at once. Provisioning time is zero | Order, ship, set up, and restore from backup |
| Aging hardware | You pick Light, Basic, Standard, or Advanced and can move package later | The box you bought gets slower relative to new software |
| Offline work | Needs a network path to the data center | Works on a plane, a shop floor, or a site with no usable internet |
| Local GPU and devices | Fits office work through Advanced. It is not a local workstation GPU | Dedicated local graphics, capture cards, and specialty cards stay in the chassis |
| Peripherals | Printers and common USB devices over the remote session, with the usual remote-desktop limits | Direct ports, dongles, measurement gear, and audio interfaces |
| Backup | Files live on the desktop in the data center. You still copy off anything you cannot afford to leave there | You own the backup habit. There is no data center copy unless you make one |
| Administrator rights | Full administrator rights on every Infosaic desktop | Full administrator rights on a machine you own, unless your IT locks it |
What you are deciding
A physical PC is a device you keep. You pay once, or on a finance plan, and you live with that board, disk, and GPU until you replace them. It is the right object when the work happens in that room and must continue if the wide-area network does not.
An Infosaic Cloud desktop is a Windows 11 PC that stays in a data center. You sign up, receive a login email, and connect from a browser or RDP. Light is light browsing and basic office work: 3 GB RAM, 4 virtual cores, Windows 11 LTSC, Office pre-installed and not activated. Basic is an office desktop replacement. Standard is for resource-hungry office applications such as advanced QuickBooks. Advanced matches the functionality of an advanced PC. Each desktop is one interactive user at a time.
The decision is not which object is more modern. It is whether the work needs the chassis in the room.
Money over the life of the machine
A local PC concentrates cost at purchase. You also pay for breaks, upgrades, and the afternoon spent reinstalling Windows. Those costs are real and irregular. They do not appear as a hosting line.
Infosaic Cloud is a monthly or annual bill with no contract. The starting price is $11.95 a month. You do not buy the hypervisor. You do not replace a failed disk in that chassis. You can stop paying when you no longer need the desktop.
A fair reading adds the client device on the cloud side. You still need a laptop, a thin client, or a borrowed PC to open the session. The cloud desktop replaces the office tower, not the keyboard in your bag.
Failure, theft, and replacement time
If a desk PC fails, work waits on repair or a new box and a restore. If it is stolen, the disk goes with it. Encryption helps. It does not put the files back.
If the client laptop that opens Infosaic Cloud is stolen, the desktop is still in the data center. You change the password and open the same session from another machine. Hyper-V isolation, a dedicated public IP, and unmetered traffic stay with that desktop. Redundant blended carriers in the United States data center are the path to it.
Replacement of the cloud desktop itself is the signup path. Provisioning time is zero. Replacement of a local PC is a purchase cycle. Neither fact is an argument that disks never fail in a data center. It is an argument that you are not the person opening the chassis.
More than one place, more than one device
A desk PC is excellent in one room. Carrying it is possible and often unpleasant. A second house means a second machine or a remote-access tool you then have to secure.
The cloud desktop is the same Windows 11 session from the office, from home, and from a browser on a borrowed PC. That is the point of Desktop as a Service. It still needs a network. Hotel wireless and cellular hotspots vary. When the path is poor, the local PC in that room feels better.
Support on Infosaic Cloud is staffed around the clock. There is no formal SLA. A local PC's support is the shop that sold it, the manufacturer warranty, or you.
What a local PC still does better
Offline work. If the job continues through a network cut, buy the PC.
Heavy local graphics. Video cards in a desk workstation, local render, and capture hardware are not what Light through Advanced are for. Advanced is an advanced PC for office-class work, not a substitute for a local GPU tower.
Peripherals that expect a local port. Measurement instruments, some audio interfaces, licensed dongles that refuse a remote session, and specialty USB devices belong on the desk.
Those limits are ordinary remote-desktop limits. They are not a defect unique to Infosaic Cloud.
Backup, aging, and mixed use
Files on a cloud desktop should still be copied to a place you control. Files on a local PC should still be copied to a place that is not that PC. Backup is a habit in both columns.
Aging is where the commercial shapes diverge. A bought PC stays the machine you bought. An Infosaic package can be reconsidered at the next billing period. HIPAA workloads can be discussed because Infosaic has signed Business Associate Agreements before. Compliance of the facility sits with the data center, not with Infosaic, and this page does not list attestations.
Many people keep both: a light portable for travel and an Infosaic Standard or Advanced for the applications that should not live on the portable disk.
Which one fits
Neither answer is wrong. These are the conditions that decide it.
Choose Infosaic Cloud when
- You need the same Windows 11 desktop from more than one place or device.
- You would rather pay monthly or annually than buy and repair another tower.
- A stolen or failed client machine should not take the work disk with it.
- Light, Basic, Standard, or Advanced covers the applications.
- Instant delivery of a login email is how you want a replacement to happen.
Choose Cloud PC vs a local PC when
- The work must continue with no usable internet.
- You need a local workstation GPU, capture card, or specialty expansion hardware.
- Peripherals must sit on local ports without a remote-desktop hop.
- You already have a sound PC and only needed a second keyboard.
- You want to own the chassis and replace it on your own schedule.
The four plans
Four packages of the same fast-performing Windows 11 computer, from a light desk for browsing and email to a workstation-class machine. Administrator rights and round-the-clock support on all of them.
Common questions
Does a cloud desktop remove the need for any local device?
No. You still need a screen and a computer or thin client to open the browser or RDP session.
What happens if my laptop is stolen?
The Infosaic Cloud desktop remains in the data center. Change credentials and connect from another device. A stolen desk PC takes its disk unless you encrypted and backed it up.
Can several people share one Windows 11 cloud desktop?
No. One interactive user at a time. Buy a desktop for each person, or keep a shared local PC in one room.
Is Advanced a replacement for a local GPU workstation?
No. Advanced matches the functionality of an advanced PC for desktop applications. Local render and capture hardware stay on the desk.
Do I need Microsoft 365 to use Infosaic Cloud?
No. Light includes Office files that are not activated, so you bring a license if you need Office.
Is there a contract or a formal SLA?
No contract and no formal SLA. Support is staffed around the clock. A local PC's warranty is the one printed on that box.
The other comparisons
Same product, measured against the other choices people look at.
A fast Windows desktop, delivered instantly
If the work is a personal Windows 11 desktop you can open from more than one place, choose Light, Basic, Standard, or Advanced on Infosaic Cloud and sign up. You will receive the login email and can connect from a browser or by RDP. If the work must run offline or on local graphics hardware, buy the PC for that desk and keep it.
