Bookkeeping and day-to-day accounts
QuickBooks, Excel and a tax package side by side. If your company file has grown large, Standard is the better fit.
The daily books
QuickBooks or Sage open all day, a bank feed to reconcile, invoices going out, Excel for the things the accounting package will not do, Outlook for the people chasing both. It is not heavy work individually; it is a lot of things open at once, and it is the kind of work people want to do from more than one place.
Basic carries it with ten gigabytes of memory and eight virtual cores, and because it is a full Windows 11 machine with administrator rights, the accounting software installs and updates exactly as it would on a desk PC.
Why bookkeeping suits a cloud desktop
- The company file lives on the desktop, not on a laptop that goes home in a bag.
- The bookkeeper, the owner and the accountant can each sign in from wherever they are.
- Backups and hardware are handled underneath the desktop rather than by whoever remembers.
- Year-end software updates install with administrator rights and no ticket to raise.
When to choose Standard instead
Where Basic starts to strain is a company file that has grown over many years. If QuickBooks regularly pauses while it thinks, or a report takes a noticeable while to run, Standard removes the wait with fourteen gigabytes and twelve virtual cores.
The plan for this: Basic
10 GB of memory, 8 virtual cores, 80 GB system drive and 40 GB data drive, for $18.95 a month, on a server-class host that keeps the desktop quick from any device. The other three packages are the same desktop with more or less memory and processing power.
Common questions
Will QuickBooks Desktop run on it?
Yes. It is a full Windows 11 machine with administrator rights, so QuickBooks Desktop installs and runs as it would on an office PC.
Can my accountant sign in to the same desktop?
Not at the same time. A Windows 11 desktop is licensed for one interactive user, so each desktop is one person's. Give the accountant a desktop of their own and keep the company file where both can reach it, or send them a backup copy the way you would from an office PC.
Is the data backed up?
The hosts and storage the desktop runs on are managed by Infosaic. Keep your own backups of the company file as well, exactly as you would on a PC - it is your data and you have administrator rights to schedule it.
